At our architectural design firm in Nevada, we are often asked about the concept of including a sunroom or sun porch in our mountain or golf course home designs in Carson City, Lake Tahoe, and Truckee.  And more often than not, we take a good look at the property and often suggest our clients think about adding this ‘extension of the outdoors’ into their overall design.

Sunrooms are certainly a benefit during the snowy winter months.  Although we love to ski, we also enjoy cozying up inside and watching the snow fall or soaking up the warmth of the sun during Lake Tahoe’s classic crisp clear sunny winter days.

For the warmer summer season, I always suggest the room includes screened windows and a ceiling fan to keep the heat circulating throughout this spacious and aesthetic addition to your home.

Our team at Borelli Architecture in Incline Village also suggests the design includes overhanging eves and the installation of sunshades.  My wife, Kelly, who has an interior design firm in North Lake Tahoe, often recommends the more elegant awnings that include wind detectors that will automatically close the shades when the Sierra’s afternoon breezes kick-up over the mountain tops.

No matter what time of the year it may be, when you have added a sunroom to the design of your mountain estate or golf course home, each season brings the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the High Sierra through floor to ceiling windows and/or connected outdoor sun porch.

Many families that work with our architect firm in Nevada, Lake Tahoe are empty-nesters who either have grandchildren on the way or guests visiting from around the world.  Using the sunroom as an extended guest room is another excellent use for this multi-purpose addition to your home.  As such, we always suggest additional features be added within the overall design.  It’s not uncommon for us to automatically include a sink and small refrigerator, and bathroom close-by, within the sunroom’s overall design.

If you are thinking about building a home in Tahoe, Truckee or the bourgeoning Carson City and Northern Nevada region, we’d be happy to share our ideas about including a sunroom or sun porch to your home or vacation rental.  And, if you have an established property, and may be considering an addition to your home that includes a sunroom, we’re here to help review your options as well.

Let the sunshine in!
